When should I purchase the Immigrants and Visitors to Canada insurance plan?

  • Before you leave your home country
  • There is a 2 day (48 hour) waiting period if you apply within 30 days of your arrival in Canada, or a 7 day (168 hour) waiting period if you apply more than 30 days after your arrival in Canada.

Types of Plan

  • Plan A does not provide coverage for pre-existing medical conditions.
  • Plan B provides coverage for medical conditions that are stable for 180 days before the effective date of insurance and is available to applicants up to certain age
